Constellation-constrained capacity for trellis code multiple access systems

چکیده
Trellis code multiple access (TCMA) is a narrow-band multiple access scheme. There is no bandwidth expansion, so users are using the same bandwidth as one single user. The load (the number of bits per channel use) of the system is therefore much higher than the load in, for example, conventional CDMA systems. It is shown here that the maximum number of users in a TCMA system is usually modest. This fact is based on constellation-constrained capacity, i.e., the maximum capacity of a system with a specific constellation of the transmitted symbols. The minimum required signal-to-noise ratio for reliable transmission is also given for different code rates.

Trellis Coded Modulation for Two-User Unequal-Rate Gaussian MAC
In this paper, code pairs based on trellis coded modulation are proposed over PSK signal sets for a two-user Gaussian multiple access channel. In order to provide unique decodability property to the receiver and to maximally enlarge the constellation constrained (CC) capacity region, a relative angle of rotation is introduced between the signal sets. Subsequently, the structure of the sum alpha...
متن کاملOn the Two-User SISO-Gaussian and MIMO-Fading MAC with Finite Input Alphabets
Constellation Constrained (CC) capacity regions of two-user SISO Gaussian Multiple Access Channels (GMAC) are computed in this paper for several Non-Orthogonal and Orthogonal Multiple Access schemes (abbreviated as NO-MA and O-MA schemes respectively). For NO-MA schemes, a metric is proposed to compute the angle(s) of rotation between the input alphabets such that the CC capacity regions are ma...
متن کاملSignature Design of Sparsely Spread CDMA Based on Superposed Constellation Distance Analysis
Sparsely spread code division multiple access (SCDMA) is a non-orthogonal superposition coding scheme that permits a base station simultaneously communicates with multiple users over a common channel. The detection performance of an SCDMA system is mainly determined by its signature matrix, which should be sparse to guarantee large Euclidean distance for the equivalent signal constellation afte...
متن کاملCoding for Two-User SISO and MIMO Multiple Access Channels
Constellation Constrained (CC) capacity regions of a two-user SISO Gaussian Multiple Access Channel (GMAC) with finite complex input alphabets and continuous output are computed in this paper. When both the users employ the same code alphabet, it is well known that an appropriate rotation between the alphabets provides unique decodability to the receiver. For such a set-up, a metric is proposed...
متن کاملOrthogonal vs Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access with Finite Input Alphabet and Finite Bandwidth
For a two-user Gaussian multiple access channel (GMAC), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), a well known orthogonal-multiple-access (O-MA) scheme has been preferred to non-orthogonal-multiple-access (NO-MA) schemes since FDMA can achieve the sum-capacity of the channel with only single-user decoding complexity [Chapter 14, Elements of Information Theory by Cover and Thomas]. However, wit...
